Martial Arts and Self Defence:
From 2020, I started to learn Wing Chun Kung Fu with Anne Pang. Chinese martial arts are so profound, incorporating philosophical concepts that are intimately connected with Chinese philosophy and sets of physical techniques and styles. The experience of learning Kungfu helps me developing both internal discipline and external technique which I believe is also very important for the young children to protect themselves. So I joined in the Anne Pang self-defence train the trainer program and successfully became a trainer. Anne has been constantly updating and improving the self-defence courses combing the Chinese martial with psychological theories for more than 30 years. I really wish that more and more people could benefit from her knowledge and experience and would like to share it among our communities, especially the women and young children. The physical techniques and mental awareness from Anne Pang Self Defence courses are not only for self-defence, but also support people to be more confident, independent and persistence.

Martial arts and Self-defence experience:
I began my Kung Fu journey at the age of nine at Barry Pang Kung Fu school, steadily progressing through the junior grading syllabus before advancing to the normal (adult) grading syllabus and ultimately earning my probationary black belt in 2025.

I am a big advocate for women empowerment, involving myself not only in teaching Women's Self Defence but also being involved in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives at work and empowering women through the powerlifting community.

Women can be strong and they can be confident, and there are 2 aspects to this, internal and external. Women need to feel that they are strong – this means training their bodies and lifting something heavy or doing something hard. They also need to be able to see themselves represented in strength sports and in management and in high grades in martial arts school as this helps them to redefine their place in society. For myself, having Anne Pang as my inspiration since I was 9 years old helped me realise that I could achieve anything I put my mind to.

Languages and Community Involvement
When I am not working, teaching self-defence, training kung fu or powerlifting at the gym, you will probably find me catching up with and serving the church community. I attend a Chinese church in Melbourne CBD. While my congregation is English speaking we all have ties to a Chinese heritage. My Mandarin is basic and my Cantonese even more so, but I embrace learning from others and am eager to improve my language skills. If you join my class, perhaps I can teach you self-defence while you help me with my Chinese.

Martial Arts and Self-Defence:
I began training in Kung Fu at Dandenong Snap Fitness after COVID. Having always enjoyed martial arts films, I was drawn to learning this ancient Chinese art. The welcoming and supportive environment at the club made a lasting impression on me. The senior students were generous in sharing their knowledge, and through my training, I developed a level of confidence and assertiveness I had never experienced before. It truly felt like a home away from home.In 2025, I was honoured to be invited by Anne to join the Train the Trainer Women’s Self Defence Course at Victoria University. The course was intensive and highly practical. Not only did I learn essential techniques and self-awareness strategies to enhance personal safety, but I also discovered a passion for teaching and sharing knowledge with others. It has always been my aspiration to empower myself—and now I feel privileged to be able to empower others. One moment that deeply stayed with me was when a student shared, after her fourth session, how much the training had changed her perspective. She shared the pressures she and her friends faced back home to conform to their parents’ expectations and shape their lives accordingly, and how this experience had given her a newfound confidence and inner strength. Hearing how both the physical and psychological aspects of training had transformed her outlook was incredibly moving and reaffirmed the value of this work.
